CHUCK GAUL

HEAD COACH

I am like most of our SCST swimmers, swimming since the age of eight. My start was with a local summer league club in Lancaster PA, Golden Meadows Swim Club. Unlike here in Wyoming, this was an outdoor 25 meter pool.  Swim meets were held every Tuesday night at both home and other community team pools. I competed in all age groups through the age of eighteen.

In addition to summer league swimming, I trained with the Lancaster Aquatic Club throughout high school. As an amateur athlete, back when there was an amateur athletic union, this gave me the opportunity to compete throughout north eastern part of the United States and eventually an opportunity to compete for the USA on a 16 and under team against Germany.

I was recruited by NC State University and swam all four years 79-82. My NCSU men’s teams captured all Atlantic Coast Conference championships totaling 13 straight years as conference champions. In 1982, as a college senior, I was awarded the men’s Atlantic Coast Conference swimmer of the year.

After graduation, I coached the Triangle Swim Club summer league swim team in Cary NC for two years. A club of approximately 100 swimmers ages 5-18. In our second season, this group improved to capture the Division title.

Additionally, I’ve played many roles on various types of swim clubs from summer league to high school. I’ve started teams, managed teams, officiated, timed, and been a supportive parent as my own son swam throughout high school.

Now I’m coaching a fantastic group of Pinedale swimmers who never cease to amaze me with their talent. As a team we have had huge successes at our divisional and championship meets. Topping this year, our SCST swim team board and team parents have initiated one of the best themed swim meets in the western Wyoming area, the Pirate Plunge, RRRR!!!! I’m excited to continue coaching with SCST and enthusiastic to see our program continue to grow.

KATIE WILLIAMS

ASSISTANT COACH

My name is Katie Williams. I am the Assistant Coach for the Sublette County Sea Turtles. I have had the pleasure of coaching the turtles for the past seven years. I have found it to be one of the most fun and rewarding experiences.

I have been involved in swimming for as long as I can remember. I began swimming competitively for the Lander Swim Team when I was four and continued through high school.  I was coached and mentored by Bruce Gresly, who taught me how to be a great athlete both in and out of the water. All through high school and college, I taught swim lessons for the USA team and for the Lander Swim Pool before beginning my career as a teacher.

Coach Chuck and I get excited each session as we add members to our team and see our current swimmers meet and exceed their goals. While we take swimming seriously, we also recognize the importance of enjoying the journey. Swimming should be an enjoyable and fulfilling experience for every member of our team. We organize team-building activities, social events, and other opportunities for swimmers to bond and have fun outside regular practices and competitions.
