SWIM LEVELS

SCST Level 1
The athletes in Level 1 will learn swimming skills to achieve basic competence in all 4 competitive swim strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly). Additionally, Level 1 swimmers will work on kneeling starts with a goal of a standing start from the pool-side wall. For all SCST levels, swimmers are required to participate in at least one competitive swim meet during the season session. Each swim session will have at least one "HOME" swim meet scheduled at the Pinedale Aquatic Center (PAC) facility which does not require additional travel. Several additional scheduled season meets are held at away facilities and can require an over-night stay. Coaches will assist and review all event choices for scheduled swim meets. Swimmers must be a minimum of 6 years old. Level 1 swimmers attend 2 one-hour practices per week with a concentration on competitive swimming skills and drills.
Level 1 swimmers must:
  • Follow instructions and participate in activities during a 60 minute practice.
  • Listen to recommendations from the coaching staff & be capable of making appropriate changes.
  • Understand they are part of the Sublette County Swim Team and have respect for teammates.
  • Understand the consequences of breaking team rules.
  • Enjoy both swim practice and swim meets. Have loud voices during team cheers.
  • Be responsible for individual swimming equipment (suit, goggles, SCST provided fins and bag).
  • Be on time and ready for the start of each practice. 
SCST Level 2

The athletes in level 2 will learn swimming skills to achieve basic competence in all 4 competitive swim strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly). Additionally, Level 2 swimmers will work on block starts. For all SCST levels, swimmers are required to participate in at least one competitive swim meet during the season session. Each swim session will have at least one "HOME" swim meet scheduled at the Pinedale Aquatic Center (PAC) facility which does not require additional travel. Several additional scheduled season meets are held at away facilities and can require an over-night stay. Coaches will assist and review all event choices for scheduled swim meets. Level 2 swimmers can choose to attend either 2 or 4 practices per week (Mon/Wed, Tues/Thurs, or Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs). Level 2 swimmers will work to achieve WYSI qualifying time standards.
Level 2 swimmers must:
  • Follow instructions and participate in activities during a 90 minute practice.
  • Listen to recommendations from the coaching staff & be capable of making appropriate changes.
  • Understand they are part of the Sublette County Swim Team and have respect for teammates.
  • Understand the consequences of breaking team rules.
  • Enjoy both swim practice and swim meets. Have loud voices during team cheers.
  • Be responsible for individual swimming equipment (suit, goggles, SCST provided fins and bag).
  • Be on time and ready for the start of each practice.
  • Be capable of front streamline push-off from the w all.
  • Be capable of back streamline push-off from the wall.
  • Swim 25 yard Freestyle with minimal stopping.
  • Perform a front open turn with a goal to achieve a legal competitive flip turn.
  • Develop both legal Breaststroke (whip-kick) and Butterfly(dolphin kick).
  • Participate in dry-land exercises.
  • Simple understanding a practice of both Breaststroke and Butterfly with two-handed touches.
  • Develop competitive swimming start using the starting block.
  • Develop competitive Backstroke start using the starting block.
  • Understanding and following group lane circle swimming (5 second interval starts).
  • Practice set interval training using the pace clock.
SCST Level 3

The athletes at level 3 will learn swimming skills in all 4 competitive swim strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly). Level 3 swimmers will continue to refine starting block techniques. For all SCST levels, swimmers are required to participate in at least one competitive swim meet during the season session. Each swim session will have at least one "HOME" swim meet scheduled at the Pinedale Aquatic Center (PAC) facility which does not require additional travel. Several additional scheduled season meets are held at away facilities and can require an over-night stay. Coaches will assist and review all event choices for scheduled swim meets. Level 3 swimmers can choose to attend either 2 or 4 practices per week (Mon/Wed, Tues/Thurs, or Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs). Many Level 3 swimmers opt for a full 4-practices per week schedule. Most Level 3 swimmers have achieved WYSI qualifying times and strive to add additional WYSI event qualifying time standards.

  • Listen to recommendations from the coaching staff & be capable of making appropriate changes.
  • Understand they are part of the Sublette County Swim Team and have respect for teammates.
  • Understand the consequences of breaking team rules.
  • Enjoy both swim practice and swim meets. Have loud voices during team cheers.
  • Be responsible for individual swimming equipment (suit, goggles, SCST provided fins and bag).
  • Be on time and ready for the start of each practice.
  • Will refine front streamline push-off from the wall.
  • Will refine back streamline push-off from the wall.
  • Will refine all competitive swim turns.
  • Participate in dry-land exercises.
  • Will refine both Breaststroke and Butterfly two-handed touches.
  • Refine FR, BR, FLY racing starts using the starting block.
  • Refine BK start using the starting block.
  • Understanding and following group lane circle swimming (5 second interval starts).
  • Practice set interval training using the pace clock.
